Walk A Mile Koori Style 2018

On Friday 30 November 2018, Year 5 and 6 students from Windale Public School went to King Edward Park Newcastle to participate in Walk a Mile Koori Style.

Walk a Mile Koori Style© (WAMKS) is an Australian version of Walk a Mile In Her Shoes®. It is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander male youth-lead event and men and boys from all nations and cultures are encouraged to participate. This walk is for all men to say NO to domestic violence and advocate for an end to violence in their communities. It has been an annual event for the Newcastle community since 2013.

It was so great to stand with the women and girls on the hill and watch the sea of pink shirts worn by the men and boys walking together up the hill. We were very proud to watch our much-loved staff member Barry Williams and our boys in Years 5 and 6 march to say “no” to violence against girls and women. We are definitely looking forward to the next Walk a Mile Koori Style.
