NAIDOC 2019 Celebrations at Windale Public School

NAIDOC Day was celebrated at Windale Public School on Thursday 4 July 2019. We started off our deadly celebrations with a special Opening Ceremony to which we invited special guests.

Our guest list included Carol Proctor from Bahtabah Land Council, Connor Watson from the Newcastle Knights, Aunty Laurel Williams, Uncle Nolan Simon, Jodie Harrison Local MP and Steve Harris, Director of Educational Leadership.

Our students at Windale Public School showcased their talents by performing in front of their school peers and extended community members. They were very proud to have this opportunity. After our Opening Ceremony, the students sat down and had a sausage sizzle with their families. It was great to see everyone having a yarn and enjoying themselves.

Once lunch was finished, we split up into our groups and were ready to start the activities we had organised for the day. These included ochre, dance, weaving, bush tukka and Johnny cakes, artefacts, making headbands and beaded bracelets, boomerang painting and rock art,  and Indigenous Games.

The day was a huge success. We had so much positive feedback not just from our students here but from our special guests and community members.

We would like to thank everyone who came along to help celebrate such a deadly day and we look forward to the next celebration.
